Astraea Snail

Astraea Snail

(Astraea tecta)

Native Origin:
These are collected from the waters of Florida and the Carribean.

Purchase Info:
A dozen of these were purchased from "Preuss Animal House" on February 9,  2003.

Special Requirements:
As they move across the substrate, structures and rocks, they consume any algae which provides nutrition.  They require ample hiding places and ample room to roam.  They also consume cyanobacteria and diatoms.

Comments:
These are pyramidal in shape, hervivorous and long lived.  They can grow up to 1", in the aquarium.  They are often unable to upright themselves when they fall.  Some fall prey to hermit crabs wishing to upgrade their homes.
